What are Hydropathics? Hydropathics are a natural development in the use of homeopathics in the treatment of the problems affecting the health of today’s horse. Developed at the Institute of Applied Equine Podiatry, to aid in the treatment of common pathologies that afflict the horse’s foot, Hydropathics address the “why” rather than the how.
Research conducted over the past seven years has added to our understanding that many domestic horses suffer from chronic dehydration. Dehydration is a leading contributor to illness in the horse, and more specifically to the diseases associated with the horse’s hooves.
There are many reasons why a horse becomes dehydrated. The most obvious is lack of availability of water, but that is not usually the case. If you are a responsible horse owner you make water available at all times. The problem arises when the horse refuses to drink. Stress is likely the main reason a horse refuses to drink.
Stress is a leading cause of dehydration, whether the stress is caused by overwork, pain, or environment, it can cause the horse to stop drinking. Stress then leads to an increase in acidity within the body, creating additional stress. The body must work harder to maintain proper ph balance, and uses greater amounts of water to correct ph levels. The kidneys and liver need additional water to remove toxins from the body, toxins from processed feeds, vaccines, poor pasture, and even ground water. All of this stress weakens the horse’s immune system, which can lead to disease.
HydroPathics addresses the need for increased hydration, while homeopathically treating the conditions presented. Treat the “why” by hydrating.
